Color Blind (a.k.a. "I Don't See Color") Color Blind (a.k.a. “I Don’t See Color) –for the white people who haven’t already been convinced that our black peers can’t find justice in USNearly all colloquialisms about blindnessare negative – a lazy way of expressingfrustrationwith willful ignoranceor being taken advantage of. I wonder why, then, white peopleturn tocolor blindnessas a sign of purported evolution:(I’m not racist)“I’m color blind!” Or “I don’t see color.” I can’t help but imaginethe people they seeas outlines devoid of substancelike coloring books for white childrento bring to lifewith the imaginationthey are encouraged to indulge. Or crime scene tapeholding the lives they took awayfrom those with black skin. If they broke it down, perhaps they’d realizethat despite their best intentions, this attempt to be literaljust reinforces the usual metaphor –Willful ignoranceof centuriesof institutionalized racismwhite supremacyand the power to determinewhen and which colorsto see.
