A New Home for Haiku and Photos
For the past five years, I have posted to Facebook a nearly daily collection of photographs from my run (or occasionally just from life) with an accompanying haiku. This practice has been a sort of morning meditation -- the chance to immerse myself in the beauty of the world while trying to connect that beauty to very real things happening in it through a strict practice of counting syllables and thinking metaphorically. Looking back at my daily haikus over the years lets me discover patterns, which is always helpful.
I recently decided that I need to largely give up Facebook for a variety of personal and political reasons. One of the things that has made this difficult on me is the idea that I won't have a space to share my runs and reflections with others - there is something so joyous for me about sharing the images of the world I see in the morning with friends far away. (And some of you have reached out to tell me that this action is something you look forward to as well.) I realized today that I don't have to quit doing that - I can continue to do it right here on my site. So, that is what I am going to do. Hopefully at least some of you will continue to check in with me in this way.
